a European Social Media Platform –
that can be used globally without abusing free speech
WITHOUT hate, mobbing or violence etc.
a European Social Media Platform (the petition in summary)
- Enabling Europe to BLOCK social media apps that do not comply with EU data content regulations
- Proposal: a joint venture between, e.g. some Fediverse Social Platforms and the EU Government.
- controlled by EU law with AI & data experts ensuring deletion of illegal posts
- this is not censorship. It is the owners right to determine allowed content – and Free Speech: what about that?
- simple migration from all other social media platforms, which will be blocked in Europe at a given date
- Can be used globally
- The ROI (from advertising revenue) goes partially to the investing goverment(s) and to enable monetisation.
Our Demands
X, Instagram, Facebook, Tik-Tok, YouTube and possibly other similar applications (e.g. WhatsApp, Reddit etc.) are currently refusing or not committing to clean up the harmful posts on their platforms.
The application owners have enough money to give in to these demands…
Europe, or individual European nations if necessary, must block these applications unless the app owners can prove that all this trash will be removed and prevented within a short period of time.
Why is this important?
Such posts are guilty of inciting violent crime, even terrorism; they are responsible for spreading hate, threats, fake news, unfounded conspiracy theories, child abuse and paedophilia, misogyny, gender hatred and racism. It also includes political interference, including spreading right-wing ideologies and influencing voters in European countries.
None of this can possibly be considered free speech – it is criminal and should be illegal.
If they want us to use their sites, they have to comply within the timeframe and with the ongoing controls, otherwise we will block their sites and provide a European alternative for all global users. Such platforms already exist, but they need support!
What is the alternative?
all will be revealed in the actual petition…
Free Speech
Even before we get to free speech?, let’s talk about ownership. Software is a product and is owned by somebody. That person has the right to develop that software however s/he wants. It can be left open for all kinds of data or it can be tightly monitored to only accept certain data. This is why each website must have, by law, a page showing terms and conditions.
If you read those terms and conditions then it is up to you to use that software application or website or not. If you do not read the terms and conditions then you must accept the consequences should you, even inadvertently, abused the conditions.
In a nation where democracy and freedom prevail a software author-owners have the right to develop their application however they want.
Both Donald Trump and Elon Musk, and some others, have either purchased software companies or paid for the development of applications that allow the continual abuse of free speech. They are free to do that, and we are free not to use their software applications.
I urge you not to use those applications and to discourage your children from using them.
They say “a bad product never sells”. Let’s make it happen!
Freedom of Speech in examples (my answers in green, his statements in brown)
I am English, so I will use the terms ‘the English’ and ‘Englishman’ in my examples below…
“I hate the English!”
Hmmm! Not very nice, I think, and without any reason – but it is free speech after all.
“I hate the English, because…”
“they can’t cook and their food stinks.”
Well, alright mate, that’s your opinion but you are free to say that, after all.
“I hate the English, and…”
“they should all be expelled from my country. And I don’t give a f*ck if their family was born here”
Hold on a minute, this kind of rhetoric is bordering on the red line. It is not nice at all, but still you are free to say it.
“You are an Englishman and I hate you…”
Steady on man, that is not nice at all, but freedom of speech allows you to have your opinion.
“and I know where you live and where your children go to school. So if you don’t leave my country, you will be responsible if anything happens to them.”
Ouch! That was a very sinister threat and you do not have the right to threaten me – that is not free speech.
His statement, within the red box, has drastically crossed the line – a threat to anyone’s life violates your right to speak freely. There are many such posts like this on X, FB, You Tube and other social media apps. Some of those type of threats have actually been carried out but even if they are not it puts fear and worry into the minds of the affected. It is a form of both mental and, sometimes, physical harm. It must be stopped.
“I love children”
Great mate! I do too.
“I love children with their clothes off”
Don’t think you should say that. I hope you just like seeing kids enjoy themselves in a paddling pool, regardless of what they are wearing. A dodgy statement is that, but free speech after all.
“I love children with their clothes off – check out these photos and videos…”
It doesn’t matter whose children they are, they might even be yours, you have crossed the red line. That is not free speech and you have committed a criminal offence.
Such a post has gone way over the red line. Even a text description of such photos and videos crosses the red line. It is NOT free speech. Pedophilia does not belong on this planet, nor on internet.
Violating the Privilege of ‘Freedom of Speech’ in Other Ways
Those two examples above show, in my opinion, where free speech starts and ends. Unfortunately there are many other ways of violating ones freedom of speech, some of which I list below…
- Any form of Racism, which includes anti-semitism.
- Any form of hatred including…
- Gender hatred
- Misogony
- against any religion (I am an atheist but tolerant towards religion; of course child abuse and violence in the name of religion should not be tolerated)
- ethnic inheritance
- and more…
- Posting instructions on how to build weapons
- Incitement to violence and crime
- Fake News
- Unproven conspiracy theories
- Interference in foreign nation’s politics
- and more…
To Conclude
Social media applications such as X, Facebook, Instagram, Tik-Tok, WhatsApp and others are undermining our social system, allowing lies, threats and abuse of many kinds and their owners are refusing to delete the offending posts. Now, since Trump has been president the situation is not only worse, it is ludicrous. Trump has said that Vlodimir Selenskji started the war in the Ukraine <- this is not true, it is hateful, fires up a conspiracy theory and cannot be considered free speech.
Putin still tells his people that the war is a “special exercise” for the troops. Vance claims that Europe does not allow free speech and Musk is infiltrating into European politics by openly supporting right wing parties – in Germany, Italy and the UK. None of this even approaches respect and sincerity, so please help us stop the lies and threats et cetera on the appropriate social media platforms by signing this Click here to go to the petition – and please sign it! ๐ ๐.
There is nothing wrong with social media, it provides a great opportunity for global communication, as long as it complies with free speech. But, like alcohol and gambling, we must be aware and make our children aware that it can also become an obsession.
If you are not sure why you should sign the petition, even though you feel it is a positive idea, then these articles may help you decide…
